Hello and welcome to The Savvy Stash! My name is Taya Poe.
Raised in a low-income and single grandparent home, I experienced first-hand many kinds of struggles as a child. It was always my hope to have a better situation for my future. As a young adult, I made the mistake of placing my independence above my education, as so many do. This delayed the beginning of my college experience into my mid-twenties. However, after nine very long years of working full-time while also pursuing my degree, I did eventually earn my Masters in Accounting. Today I'm a Financial Controller for a small private company and have the ability to provide a better life for my daughter.
Growing up through trials and tribulations, I learned a lot about financial survival in the toughest of times. Some tricks can be handy in a jam (such as robbing Peter to pay Paul), however these tactics should only be used sparingly in real emergencies and not become a standard way of life. More than 50% of Americans today are living paycheck to paycheck, on a long-term foundation of these kinds of adverse financial habits. These practices can keep a person "poor" regardless of how much money they make. And living in a constant state of stress.
I've now discovered a passionate desire in myself to help others break away from these vicious and debilitating cycles. To live a life of comfort and joy, free from the perpetual worry of simply surviving. To give their children a foundation of successful financial habits for their own futures, or even creating generational wealth. To have the ability to retire on their own terms and achieve their grandest dreams. And thus, the blog was born.
The mission is to empower people to achieve financial freedom through education, inspiration, and practical advice. Everyone deserves the opportunity to build wealth and achieve their financial goals, regardless of their income level or background. By sharing experiences, insights, and research, aiming to help readers make informed decisions about budgeting, investing, managing debt and a "wealth" of other topics. The ultimate goal is to help people take control of their finances and live a life of financial security, stability, and abundance.
